Game Programmer

Get in Touch

Hey, I'm Ben! 👋

I'm a passionate game programmer with a strong foundation in computer science and a love for creating immersive worlds. While I spent four years studying computer science at university, my real growth came from hands-on experience—upskilling through Gamedev.tv and working on exciting game projects and mods with friends.

I specialise in game development, 3D modelling, and C# coding, bringing ideas to life using Unity, C#, and Blender. Whether it's crafting engaging gameplay mechanics, optimising performance, or designing 3D assets, I love pushing my creative and technical boundaries.

When I'm not developing my latest game or program, you'll probably find me watching wrestling or catching up on the latest in football. I'm also a massive fan of music and love keeping up to date with all the new rock and metal releases.

Check out my work, and feel free to reach out—I’m always up for new collaborations and creative challenges!

My Projects ⌨️

Little Humans

First Published itch.io Game

Little Humans was one of the first real projects I did. It was done through the Blackthorn Prod Launchpad course and eventually uploaded to itch.io.

I was given most of the assets that were used in the building of the project; however, all the C# scripts were made by me, as well as the gameplay loop.

It is available to download and play from my itch.io account, linked at the top of the page!

Rocket Boost

First gamedev.tv Project

Rocket Boost is the first game I developed while at Gamedev.tv. It is a very small and simple game that follows a "get from A to B" style of gameplay.

During this, I learned the ins and outs of Unity's physics systems and particle systems. I also learned how to use the Scene Loading Manager.

The full project files are available on my GitHub and can be accessed below!

Robo Rampage

First Godot Game

Robo Rampage is a 3D retro FPS that was built in Godot. I developed this while doing the courses with Gamedev.tv.

Through this, I learned a lot more about Godot, specifically the Constructive Solid Geometry tool, or more commonly known as CSG.

I used this to build a multitude of different rooms that the player could explore until their heart's content.

Sharp Shooter

Unity FPS Shooter Game

This was my first fully fledged project that I built from the ground up. It is a project that encompasses everything I learned through my upskilling.

It was built using different tools and features in Unity and also houses some of my more basic models I made using Blender.

The full code repository is available through my GitHub, and the game is playable via my itch.io page.

Echoes of Now

3D Environmental Puzzle Game

Echoes of Now is a game where the main character can control time. You have to find your way through a variety of different levels that get progressively harder with each iteration.

The game is rich in story and design and is currently in the early stages of development, with a team of two people working on it!

There are some beginnings of the game and a link to the documentation on my GitHub that you can view below!

My Experience 📝

Queen's University Belfast - ECIT

2021 - 2022

Worked in an agile working environment with weekly/bi-weekly sprint planning meetings with scrum master.

Worked on a variety of different projects from start to finish so was able to see the full development lifecycle. Projects also were a mixture of solo and team-based projects.

First project was automated testing of a questionnaire system that was hosted on Azure and used schemas to generate an answer sheet at the end. I was involved in testing the schemas against our test suites we had developed.

Second project was a team-based project based on Honeypot Data Analysis. This was the other placement students and I’s biggest project we had during our placement year. The issue was there was 25+ honeypots with a lot of data on them but they were in all different formats and styles. So, we decided to bring them all to one comparable format (JSON).

Developed the second project in Linux to pull down the Honeypot data each day and use schemas to produce a legible version that would then be stored and dated for future use.

Final project was an AI Model demonstration of how you can bypass facial recognition. This was built on a Raspberry Pi and was packaged using a Flask API.

My Education 📝

gamedev.tv

2024-2025

Completed multiple different courses on different aspects within game design. This included upskilling in things such as Unity, Blender, Godot and Unreal. I also took on a few courses to learn cinematics in Unreal and Unity and a course to learn best practices for industry standard code.

Queen's University Belfast

2021 - 2024

Completed final two years focusing on advanced computing concepts including Cloud Computing, Network Security, Software Testing, and Concurrent Programming. Developed strong practical skills through advanced modules in Systems Development and Data Structures & Algorithms. Final year project involved developing a React Native application, that was used to help people living with dementia have a better quality of life with things such as memory games, brain training games and a facial recognition login script.

Ulster University

BSc Computer Science - First Year

2020 - 2021

Established strong programming foundations through core modules in Programming (Python and Java) and Database Systems. Gained practical experience in web development and systems software, setting a solid foundation for further studies.
